Mike Benedum treks to Eldora for Million and Dream
Behind the wheel of his BSI Well Service No. 25 Late Model, Mike Benedum invaded the prestigious Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Thursday after wet weather condensed the second running of the Eldora Million into a single day show. (Zach Yost photo)
With the 124-car field split into two groups for a pair of $12,000-to-win preliminary features, Benedum ran into rear-end issues his heat, dropping him into the B-Main. Using his consolation as a test session, Mike recorded a 16th-place finish.
Later that night for heat races leading up to the Eldora Million, Mike suffered a broken lift bar that ended his bid for the $1,002,022-to-win main event.
On Friday as the 28th annual Dirt Late Model Dream got underway with a pair of prelims, Benedum followed up the 34th-fastest time in his 57-car group before placing 12th in his heat. Needing a second-place finish or better to make the $12,000-to-win preliminary feature, Mike gained five spots but missed a transfer position with a ninth-place outing.
For the finale on Saturday evening, Benedum’s 14th-to-12th run in his heat race brought an early end to his weekend.
