Mike Benedum begins 2023 season at Sunshine Nationals
Mike Benedum began his 2023 season at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) for the Case Construction World of Outlaw Late Model Series Sunshine Nationals.
With a stout 47-car field at the speedway, Benedum qualified 13th-quickest in his group before placing seventh in his heat race. Having to transfer to the main event through a consolation race, Benedum placed 12th and was unable to start the 25-lap, $8,000-to-win feature.
For another $8,000 show on Friday, Mike qualified 14th-fastest and placed seventh in his heat race before lining up from the fourth row in the first Last Chance Showdown. With one more shot to make the main event, Benedum was unable to transfer with a ninth-place finish.
Saturday's $20,000 finale at Volusia Speedway Park was cancelled due to rain.
